Why TFUWN exists

Not just what happened.
What we can learn from it.

TFU What Now approaches difficult stories with care for victims and respect for the people left behind. We look beyond shock and spectacle to understand the choices, circumstances, and warning signs that shaped each case.

What choice could have changed what came next?

Our defining question

Every episode must earn its What Now?

The story is the beginning—not the destination. We move through four questions designed to turn hindsight into foresight.

  1. 01
    The Story

What happened, and who was affected?

  2. 02
    The Decision

Where did choices, pressure, or hesitation change the direction?

  3. 03
    The Consequence

What followed—and what warning signs are clearer in hindsight?

  4. 04
    The What Now?

What safer, more responsible action is still available to us today?

About us · Hosted by Mike & Dave

Old friends.
Real stories.
A reason to care.

MikeDave

A friendship that began in Temple, Texas.

We’re Mike and Dave. We’ve been friends since childhood, long before there was a microphone or a show.

We grew up in low-income housing in Temple, Texas. We know what it means for a family to struggle, to have the utilities shut off, and to keep finding a way forward. Those experiences are part of what we bring to these conversations: concern for ordinary people, respect for what they carry, and a belief that useful help matters.

We created TFU What Now to examine real stories and ask what we can learn from them. We look at the people involved, the facts, the decisions, and the consequences. Then we ask the question that gives the show its purpose: What now?

Sometimes that means recognizing a warning sign. Sometimes it means taking a step back, asking for help, or finding a safe way to help someone else. We want every conversation to leave you with something useful for your own life.

A personal reason to remember

The people behind the stories

A life worth
remembering.

Uncle Peter 1963–1998

For Mike, loss also has a name: Uncle Peter. These photographs hold moments from his life—a five-year-old boy, an athlete in his football uniform, a graduate standing with family, and the smiling man remembered in his memorial portrait.

His memorial program describes an ambitious young man who graduated from Fremont High School, continued his education at Claremont McKenna College, and built Explore Environmental Consultants from the rear of his mother’s home. He later opened an office in downtown Los Angeles and secured environmental contracts with the city.

Character that stayed with people

“Peter was the classiest person I ever knew.”Gyl Elliott, in a letter remembering Peter

Gyl’s letter remembers someone kind, respectful, brilliant, sensitive, and self-assured. Peter encouraged people to use their talents. He could challenge a friend without belittling them, and he cared about making his city better.

That is the person we want you to meet here. His life included achievement, family, friendship, and a future that mattered. Remembering those things is part of the responsibility we bring to every story we tell.

Why we keep asking

Real stories.
Practical takeaways.
People helping people.

We want TFU What Now to grow into a community where people can share experiences, recognize risks, and support one another. Our long-term goal is to build a community-driven charitable foundation that turns that concern into direct help for people and families.

Mike and Dave create and host the show. Our conversations and perspectives are our own; AI assists with selected visuals, including the family-photo restorations shown here.

Trust matters

Care before spectacle.

01

Victims are people first

We center dignity, context, and the lives affected—not graphic detail.

02

Facts should be traceable

Episode sources, timelines, and meaningful corrections will live with each case file.

03

Reflection should lead somewhere

Every story should produce practical questions, warning signs, or safer choices.

Your voice matters

A story can become a warning.
A warning can become prevention.

If you have a story that could help someone recognize a warning sign, reconsider a decision, or feel less alone, we want to hear from you.
